Septic System Inspections

Biros Septic & Drain Cleaning, Inc. has Pennsylvanian Septage Management Association (PSMA) certified inspectors, which will follow all guidelines presented by the PSMA / NOF to inspect and rate the condition of your septic system

You might be asking yourself - "Do I need one?"

The answer is YES, if you are purchasing real state and if the bank or mortgage broker requires the inspection of a septic system.  If your bank doesn’t require an inspection to take place, you are still able to have a septic system inspection done to make sure that the system will be safe for you and your family.  Homeowners should keep in mind that most banks will require an inspection before approving the mortgage. The inspection will give a detailed report of the current condition of the septic system, any potential problems that could occur in the future, and a list of corrective measures and options.  A certified inspection of your septic system will protect you the homebuyer, the seller, and the bank. Remember a septic system is an important element to your to home.  We recommend having your septic system inspected, because it could save you a lot of money in the future.

The PSMA Process

The PSMA has certain guidelines that inspectors must follow when conducting a septic system inspection.  The first step in the process is that the homeowner or future buyer requires an inspection to take place, before signing the final papers.  The next step is to find a certified inspector, which you could contact the PSMA [Link to www. psma.net] to find a certified inspector in your area.  The final step in the process is where the inspector will review the septic system and complete the checklist required by the PSMA.  Finally the inspector will give a detailed report to the contracted customer.  The inspection should include the inspector locating the system, uncovering the manhole and inspection ports, checking all connections, and baffles, measuring the scum and the sludge layers, and checking the tank and the drain field or any cracks on the tank walls, and the drain field or any signs of failure.

Helpful information from the PSMA inspection

The inspection will give you the knowledge about your current systems age, condition, and the type of your septic system.  The inspector will inform you about the size of your tank.  If there are any problems with the system and an independent contractor needs to be called in, this inspection will give both you and the contractor enough information to estimate the overhaul or replacement costs.
